Coming Thursday I will be going down to sign the contract of my new job offer. And Monday I officially start with People's Association as a Constituency Manager at Bishan Community Centre. I'm all riled up alright! Being able to work and also serve the community at the same time is great! Oh yeahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come to think of it, I need a hair cut! haahhahahaah!!!!!

Balloon Sculpting Workshop

We went to a balloon sculpting workshop last Saturday organised by the PA balloon sculpting committee. At first I was skeptical, but I found myself enjoying the activity. It really lightens the heart participating in such activities and also to be able to see people young and old alike having so much fun just by doing something so simple. Urbanites like us have lost ourselves in never ending work and forgotten how to enjoy ourselves. I believe this is one of the reason why I joined the Youth Executive Committee in the first place, apart from enjoyment to be able to give back to the community, I don't want my life to be all about work. I want myself able to enjoy life's simplest moments. This is it.

Our photoshoot at Gloria's Photo Studio. It's a tat expensive but I love the results.

Developed this into a large frame set, now hanging in my living room. I know my siblings would think I'm wasting money doing this, but I'm just trying to create a home with more warmth. We really do not have many photos of the whole family, I only have one photo with the whole family taken at my 21st birthday when my father is around. I hope they can understand why I am doing this.

This was developed too, an 8r photo with frame. Grace and I loved it. I guess you can call it a milestone in our relationship. Hopefully, I could land a job and reach the next milestone soon. ;)

Not an exciting day. It's rainy. Rain in Singapore is an understatement to what's here...it rains from day till night. And with the cold wind blowing against you makes it all worse. Mum's Happy Birthday!

As my brother will be in Shanghai this coming Tuesday, we celebrated Mum's 64th birthday 2 days ahead of schedule. We went to my brother's shop @ Punggol, Frienzie Bistro and Bar.

Look how happy she is!

The food was so delectable that we started without taking photos. But here are some happy faces enjoying the food.

When the sun sets, we finished up our dinner and decided to go for a walk before going back to cut the cake. I got to say Punggol is my kind of town. The beautiful river walk and natural corridors makes a slow stroll very much enjoyable. Although its a little hot and humid in June, I can imagine how nice it would be in the cool spring breeze in January.

After the stroll, we went back to Frienzie. Amazing! business is still brisk despite it being 9pm plus already. We order two cakes, a mango mousse cake and a ice cream brownie. With a very happy birthday tune, we celebrated my Mum's birthday. I can see she was absolutely delighted to have the whole family out to celebrate with her, it has been a long time where we did this. Before she was too busy taking care of my father to have this luxury. I'm looking forward to do this more often and celebrating more birthdays with her. Love ya mummy!!

Tanjong Pagar KTM and JB Trip

Soon the Tanjong Pagar KTM will walk to history. Grace and me took the opportunity to ride the iconic KTM from Tanjong Pagar into Malaysia before it officially closes in 1st of July. I think this is the only place in Singapore where you actually clears Malaysia custom first before clearing our own Singapore custom. To think all this will soon disappear coming 1st July sours my nose.

An weekend afternoon's hustle and bustle is not the same as before. Most passengers came to reminisce the past, while some families brought their young children along to experience the train ride. But some things haven't changed. The ticketing officer's silent concentration that connects generations of people. The old and rustic exterior of the train that fills us with nostalgia. The snack cart uncle that offers everyone something to munch on inside the train. And the anticipation of reaching the destination remains.

Inside the train carts, it is fully air conditioned and quite comfortable. The mimed sound of the choo-choos can be heard through the glass windows and the shaking cart is unlike any MRT experience at all. Enclosed in the fauna when I look outward, it is hard to believe we are still in Singapore. This experience is both new (to me) and nostalgic at the same time. Talk about a collision of feelings.

Upon reaching JB sentral, the sense of nostalgia gave way to harsh reality. The newer looking train station forms a stark contrast with the old, rustic feel of the train. In the society where the new rapidly replaces the old, we ought to question ourselves is newer, really that much better?

We spent the rest of the afternoon eating, shopping, getting a massage and eating and more shopping. We had our lunch in a substandard Japanese restaurant not worth mentioning. Did a lot of shopping, had a massage and had our dinner at Nandos. It was a tiring and fulfilling day.

What have I being doing recently?

Finally, three years have passed and I'm done with my last semester. Many may say these might be pretty polished results, but I'm a tat disappointed. Because of several credits that pulled down my overall GPA, I wasn't able to accomplish the "graduate with distinction" goal. I'm just 0.08 short of a 3. Well, what's done is done.

And recently, Grace and me took a short getaway to Batam. It was really fun, and tiring of cause. We had to wake up 5, 6 am in time to catch the morning ferry.

As with those tour deals, we were brought to multiple shopping outlets to make purchases and help the local economy. I didn't buy much except for snacks like prawn crackers and chips.

Photos of the locals, mothers brought their child out to sell newspapers, just a little short of asking for money that is, it is sad to see children being raise in a society as such. They should have proper education, but life isn't sweet and dandy as what we have in Singapore, this is reality.

We had lunch at the Golden Prawn restaurant, it was a sumptuous meal. It was 7 course meal, 6 dish and 1 soup, delicacies like fried sotong, vegetables, chilli crab, gong gong, cereal prawns, fish and clam soup. But it is kind of awkward to share the meal with strangers though. Yes, very much a direct contrast from the lives of the locals.

Our next destination is the cultural village with 27 kinds of architectural designs of village housing. Grace knocked her head while trying to take one of the photo, sayang sayang.

Highly entertaining but very much cruel. The monkey is so cute, while I was trying to take photos, it actually came close to me and lie its head so affectionately on my thigh. So cute!

Another cultural performance with highlights of peeling coconut husk with bare teeth, fire eating, glass eating and fire hoop jumping. Last less than ten minutes and you are expected to tip a buck if you are entertained.

Next up is the Tua Pek Kong and Confucius Temple. A quick round of praying before we head off to our next destination.

We have an hour to shop at the BCS or BSC whichever. Didn't buy anything but we had a cheap dinner at breeks, with 2 eating to our stomach filled and we didn't even spend more than 20 singapore dollars.

This conclude our little getaway, here we were taking the afternoon ferry back and had time to go get some lunch in Vivocity. What's next? I'm looking forward to Korea and is going to miss my mummy and you DD.

My Thoughts

After this 'recent events', I've seen both sides basks in joy and despair. With friends being supporters for both sides of the camp, I can't help but think, 'are Singaporeans that different?', 'is this divide a good or bad thing?. I've seen vulgarities been sang and friends reduced to strangers because of this divide in political ideologies.

Personally, I was one who sat on the fence at first, but as the parties raises the different issues plaguing Singaporeans, and as have recently did an essay on ageing population and the effectiveness of the social system of Singapore, I ended up with a conclusion (concurred by many literature writers) of the incapacities of our social system. I can't help agreeing with the opposition on those issues. I, for one, is not hardcore pro-opposition nor a socialist, I do not wish Singapore to become a welfare state like Australia, which will inevitably put an huge strain on the working population.

But my mother raised me to be a man who is not only concern for my own interest. I donate to multiple charities, like the community chest and the singapore hearts foundation, and always help the old lady to buy their tissue papers and also do my part as a youth volunteer. But I'm really concerned, is Singapore going to become a place where it is ok for a 'few' to die, as long as the rest can soar? I feel my future so bleak, as I am stepping out to work life, how am I suppose to afford getting married, buying a home (yes a home, not a house, it is a long term thing for most of us), having kids etc etc...What about retirement? Remember the old lady selling tissue? Am I going to become one of them? I was telling Grace jokingly that I'm contemplating migrating, saying lets go over and become their FT. Laughs, I'm not joking.

How I wish I can be oblivious (like many Singaporeans) to all these like I once was. I am saddened. As the melodious tunes of my many favourite NDP songs starts to dwindle, I can only wish for a better future in Singapore. Prays...

Results out...2 DIs and 2 Crs...GPA dropped below 3...a little disappointed...but what the hack...Gotta enjoy my holidays before another crazy semester start...Damn recently I've been on an online shopping craze...from clothes, accessories, shoes, camera accessories etc...I just spammed 130plus on a flash and wireless trigger...gotta buy a lens pen and a blower to upkeep my camera...

Its December again...enjoyed myself thoroughly in November. Road trips, outings, cruise etc etc...Here are some photos from the last cruise...the ship is a small ship mainly for casino goers...usually caters to senior citizens with too much time and money to spare...lol

Just back from the road trip this late this Monday. It was great. The weather was great at Cameron Highlands, but the way up was treacherous...especially driving in the rain and darkness...kudos to the drivers yea...I'm so going to miss the good food in Ipoh and Port Dickson. A lazy Sunday afternoon. Haven't been playing Sunday football for very long. Feeling fat...And I decided to whip up something that is going to make me fatter! Below is hot bacon salad in vinaigrette dressing and chicken chop with mushroom sauce. All theses was for an early dinner we had at 5plus in the afternoon. As we are going to support my friend in a piano recital at 6pm.

After the recital, its makan time again. We are feeling hungry from the early dinner and decided to head to Iluma for our 2nd dinner. It was a lovely Japanese restaurant, we ordered a $48 dinner package for two which consists of numerous items below. Also inclusive was a bottle of hot sake which the two of us is anxious to try. But laughs...we didn't like it at all. I think I still prefer white wines and Grace still prefers beer~! LoL~ Dinner was real filling...the package could feed 3-4 person man! If any of you are at Iluma, try the Ebisboshi Shotengai~~ BURP!!

Thomson Family Day

A day spent with family and friends. And a tormenting afternoon for the poor non durian lover - me. The place is filled with durians as the event aims to break a Singapore Record of the most people eating durian together. OH! THE HORROR!!!! Here are some photos, the record stands at 2398 people~ Cool eh?!

Dinner at S11 Ang Mo Kio and desert at Serangoon Garden with my YEC friends. Life has been more fulfilling since I joined the YEC. The events they organised are community based and is a great way for me to give back to the community. I want to make sure that now and in the future, WORK will not dominate my life. Hopefully I can accomplish that. Schools starting tomorrow, super sian laughs~~ 2 more semester to go! Hope I can do well...Papa will bless me from heaven~!

Langkawi Highlights

A fruitful trip to Langkawi it is...tried banana boating...awfully exciting. The moment it drop us into the water is exhilarating! Of course, we all got bumps here and there...except for Irving though...

Went on 2 wildlife trips which is roughly similar...watch eagle feeds and close to monkeys all theses. Too bad didn't try the go-karting but never mind next time~

Zhuhai Macau Trip 2010

Actually I'm quite lazy to write much descriptions. But a short stay in Zhuhai, China, really stunned me in terms of culture. It is totally different from Hong Kong or even Macau which I had frequently visited.

The streets are littered with beggars from literally a few months old (the mother carrying the baby and asking for a few dollars) to old ladies in their 60s walking around asking for money. There are also little girls asking passerby if they could sing them a song in return for a few dollars. Normally, in such circumstances giving them a few bucks is not problem. Apparently, there in Zhuhai, the beggars operates like a syndicate where if one receive cash from particular passerby, they will inform the rest and all will crowd around that person. Which can be quite a nuisance.

Well, I love the weather, the feeling of everything being cheap and the ability to pamper myself without spending alot of money. I went for massages (clean), leg massages and scrub, washing hair and facial. Oh and I played go cart first time in my life and it was exhilarating. Did I say I love the weather!!!

24th Birthday and 2009 Countdown

This is me, 24, going out to celebrate my...yes....24th birthday with my girlfriend who we share the same birthday on the 31st of December. Seems like I need to lose some weight.

My favorite pastime, playing UFO machine. Played it as Grace and me waited before the movie starts. No we didn't win anything this time.

But we got many beautiful moments together at the place.

Days of December

I love December. Partly because its my birthday month, and the holidays, and the Christmas gathering soon to come. Grace and me spent our Sunday at the IT fair, was looking for a Canon DSLR, in the end no stock and coupled with steep prices I had to give up buying it.

We caught a movie too and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Grace maybe to a lesser extend...LOL...I've always been an avid fan of sci-fi adventure movies and Avatar was totally my cup of tea. The extend of graphical detail it had totally blows my mind. The natives of Pandora and the CGI world they lived in were so real that I didn't doubt it existed. Of course the downside would be the its weak plot and under developed characters. Normally it would be a big problem for me but as I said the world, its creatures and the humanoid characters was so perfect and I had problem absorbing it all, I didn't have time to worry about the cons...laugh

Oh yah, we went to the arcade again to play the Kiap Kiap machine. We spent 6 bucks, 2 dollars a try, and we got a mickey pocket watch. Well worth it! I'm not sure we are lucky or I'm just plain good at it. But we our hit rates are pretty good with these stuff...laugh

While leaving Suntec, we saw a sight that some might be consider a disgrace to be Singaporeans. See video above. I'm not sure it was poor organiser planning or greedy nature of Singaporean. There are kids been squeeze and push at the front if the video is too blur to see. Tsk..tsk...

Recap 2009

Very soon the year 2009 will be coming to an end. No matter if the prophesied calamity of 2012 will happen, 2010 need its fitted resolutions. Lets tabulate what I had achieved in 2009 and compared with those resolutions made earlier.

To be healthy
~~To get academic distinctions~~
~~To travel~~
To obtain a driving licence

I had accomplished some of it and inevitably failed some. The top resolution to be healthy, and by that meaning my back cured of its chronic back pains. I've been suffering from it for the past couple of years, ever since army days and till now I still can't be rid of it. Clearly my prayers had not been answered, as I had prayed only for that for the past few years. I'm losing faith.

Second on my list had been accomplished. Surprising results with one HD and three Ds. Am very please and will continue to work hard. Not caring whatever some people say, she's just jealous. There is nothing wrong with working hard and getting the results to justify it. So buzz off.

Third was also made possible during the little road trip up north. Was very glad we went on with it and enjoyed it to the last second. It's really my dream to travel the world, I'm just worried I might not have the time to accomplish it. With #1 (health), school, work (when I graduate), taking care of my parents, bills (in the future) and this and that. I'm not sure a regular person like me can break free from this rat race. My shoulders are heavy, probably that's the reason behind my back pains. Laughs.

Fourth don't even think about it. My bank account just recovered from eighty plus odd dollars. I might have to take it out from the list. Since there is no car for me to drive, getting a license seems redundant. So I guess that's it.

Malaysia Road Trip 2009

Our first road trip up north to Malaysia starts off in a sleepy Friday morning. Where Grace enthusiastically woke us up at 5am. Here according to Cheng Wei he was already awake at 4 am and was purchasing tissue paper and wet wipes for the trip. Many of us was skeptic but as there was not enough evidence, he remained innocent until proven otherwise. The trip in was smooth and the new custom in Johor was undeniably comfy.

Here was our expedition to locate the car rental company and this was just a random snap. An old style MAMA store filled with reminiscence of childhood days where a 20 cents piece of candy can make us happy for the entire day. Below are some cam whore shots inside the newly leased car, we were in the midst of traveling to Malacca.

No we were not in a moving vehicle when we took this. We observed safety to its molecular details, except for busting the speed limit at very regular intervals we are quite alright. But not to criticize Malaysian driver's ethic, we had observed several infamous features that were most frequently talked about.

Firstly, it seems that the pace there were faster and everyone were in a hurry to get somewhere, speeding was one thing, it seems that slowing down for other cars to filter in was not widely practiced, maybe it was the lack of traffic rules such as the yellow boxes we have in Singapore, we found it hard to cut from a small lane to the larger roads. Also, as we were new to the toll systems, we actually drove into the wrong lane where it was required to have a card call 'touch & go' to enter the toll gate. So we had to back pedal and go to the correct lane, here a red car behind actually horned at us and did some hand signals at us which might not be considered internationally friendly gestures. But nonetheless, we had gotten to each of our destinations safely and had remember to be considerate to other drivers like most good Singaporean drivers do.

Here we had lunch at a supposedly famous Hainanese Chicken Rice store. The rice they serve are rolled into bite size rice balls. Personally, I think the rice was too soft, and the chicken was too tough. And had repeatedly stated that the Chicken Rice in Bishan, Kim Shan Leng coffee shop, was way better. Maybe the food in Singapore suits my taste buds more, so to each its own then.

A walk down Jonker street, filled with stores selling souvenirs and largely the same things over and over again. More interesting was this Mua Chi store operated by youth entrepreneurs. Look at the serious look on his face, he must be a 'old hand' in making Mua Chi.

Below are some pictures of the Christ Church in Malacca, one of the most popular landmark. The pink walls and the blue skies formed a striking contrast which lights up the entire frame. This church was built as a place of worship as they did not have any church for themselves apart from the small chapel built by Portuguese on St. Paul Hill. Like St. Paul Church, this church is one of the most attractive heritage in Melaka that has gone through several stages of change under the governing of different colonials.

Here, we arrive at the Gadek Air Panas aka Gadek Hotsprings. We traveled a long way and by the time we reach it was already night. In the end, only Simon and me went into the water. I got to say the water was piping hot. And we took a long time to get use to the temperature before immersing our entire body in. But it was damn shiok, feels like the entire weight on my head, neck and shoulders being lifted off.

Later that night, it was another 2 hour plus drive to Port Dickson. As the hotels in Malacca was fully booked and we were force to drive further up for accommodation. A wonderful and beautiful hiccup, I got to say. The room was beautiful and the view overlooking the sea was marvelous. The room had 2 beds, one king and one queen, and one of us had to sleep in the couch. But still it was a good deal, paying only 30 plus 40 Sgd when shared amongst the five of us.

Here is the layout of the room, one funny thing was that when we enter, we first see the toilet and the bathing facilities then we proceed into the bedroom. And when someone is bathing, no one was able to leave or come into the room. The architect should had paid more attention to these before building with only the idea of getting the best sea view and forgotten about other details. Oh pardon the mess, it was taken when we were leaving for KL.

Wah this is a super long post and I'm getting tired already. Ok below was Dim Sum cum Bak Kut Teh store somewhere in KL, I think. Well the Dim Sum was nice but the Bak Kut Teh was...hmm Balestier one still nicer...get the picture?

After lunch and checking into the hotel, we proceed to KLCC to visit the Aquarium. Well call me swaku but this was the first time I visited one in my entire lifetime, so it was quite enlightening for me. Instead of taking the car, we commuted to the destination. As many of you know the traffic in KL was a killer so we decided to take a walk. Good change of scenery from the view behind the wind screen though.

The next day, the four of us decided to go pamper ourselves. My second spa experience and it was less embarrassing and more relaxing. One main thing it was cheap...haha...SGD $40 plus for scrub, shower, massage and tea. Beats paying 99 bucks for one lousy massage in Bintan.

Back to traveling, now we were heading back to KL. Not sure what happened to the GPS, it directed us away from the expressway to a more scenic route. Ok, apart from the cows there was nothing much to see, and we were only going 50 plus kph so it was torturing slow. We promptly headed back to the expressway and continued with our 140kph regime. Haha....

This was exaggerated, Simon was a competent driver during the trip. If not I wouldn't be writing this post isn't it. Hahaha...

JB Taman Seri Tebrau Zi Char store. We over ordered and many of us stopped soon after but the two fierce competitor strives on and the final winner was Simon who had proven that he can eat more than PR.

Our car for the trip. Nice comfy and new. Love it! That's the end for our road trip into Malaysia. It was fun and filled with laughter. The 'hello' impersonation had us laughing till our guts hurt. Thank you all for making the trip possible. Let's try to organise a gathering up at Port Dickson in the chalets with private swimming pool and have a pool party yeh~

Quite pitiful to see those elderly been left in the old folks home...some didn't even bothered to pay or give any monthly allowance for them...some children after using their parent's money to do a masters, come back le don't even give a da** about their parent....Haiz

Seriously even animals know how to show filial piety by taking care of the parent...some humans are really worse off sia...sometimes you got to stop pushing the responsibility and comparing how much each other have done and start thinking if you had done enough for your parents...? Have you...?

Currently undergoing multiple lessons in different aspect of businesses, modules undertaken are Prices & Markets, History of Management Thought, Employment Relations and Business Finance. Weeks into the start of the semester and now I'm faced with one group assignment for HMT and one individual assignment for Employment Relations. I am quite clueless as of how to go about doing the individual assignment and the dateline is coming mid August. I've to figure out how to do write that essay and also contribute to my group assignment and also study for the tests coming up this August. Stress!

Drunkard and the Police

I had recently met up with a few of my friends over drinks and movies the past two days. Upon return from the drinking session on one of the days, I found a drunkard lying on the road right smack in the middle of the car park. A few cars tried to maneuver pass him, none stopped to help him off the road. The typical Singaporean that I am, I called the police instead of staying to help. I'm sorry but I do not wish to run the risk of beaten up by a drunkard while I am trying to save his life. The police arrived more that half an hour later to find him helped off the road already by a couple of good Samaritans. I know to trouble our nations police force for such trival matters is a waste of talent and their time, but well a good stroll outside their police posts once in a while is a good change of scenery!?

We had a lovely day at the Botanical Garden. Lunch was at Halia, food pics below. Food is ok but alfresco dining in the afternoon is definitely not suitable for Singaporeans...weather super hot wor...lol

Additional presents for each other. Grace did a mosaic of photos we took in the past and placed it in a photo frame, super nice! And I did a photo scrapbook of the photos we had. Similar concept but different presentation. What telepathy~ Thanks my dear~!!

Yes its finally here. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I've caught it a few days late of the release as I was bound to be a socially responsible citizen to self quarantine oneself as I've recently been to a H1N1 infected country. But that's not the point. The point is this - super hot cars transforming into super hot robots, explosions, chases, more explosion, MEGAN FOX HOT! more transforming, more robots, even more explosion and YES MEGAN FOX HOT HOT!!

Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai Trip 2009

Day 1 - Macau Airport to Hong Kong

Touch down at Macau with our faces filled with excitement. A few snapshots here and there but we hussled to ferry ourselves to Hong Kong.

Still not warm with the camera yet...just wait you see...

Jack here was sick and must be quarantined....small people like him requires only 5 days of quarantine but that's pretty much the whole of our journey.

Day 2 - Dimsum Breakfast and Buddha

Dimsum breakfast, eat until super full but only cost 8SGD, super duper worth it. Its located beside Bowring Street, but I forgot the name of the restaurant, definitely a must go!

Ngong Ping 360 which is a cable car ride up to where the Big Buddha is. Tian Tan Buddha (天坛大佛), also known as the Big Buddha, is a large bronze statue of the Buddha, completed in 1993, and located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. The statue is located near Po Lin Monastery and symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and religion. It is a major centre of Buddhism in Hong Kong, and is also a popular tourist attraction.

Picture taken from my handphone camera. Statue with the mist covered mountains as the background. It is really a place for human and nature to come together, enjoy the serenity (apart from the tourists trap areas, hiking amongst the mountain must be a very relaxing journey).

Celebrated PR's birthday there, and also presented a card for Aaron for his belated birthday. He was curious if it was his body there on the picture. Which means we are very good at making collages...maybe we should start doing nude photos for celebs...hmmm...

Day 3 - Avenue of the Star, Mdm Tussauds and the Peak
